Disc jockey, “William B. Williams” was the one who named Frank Sinatra the “Chairman of the Board”? Sinatra became great friends with “Willie Bee” whenever Sinatra came to town. Willie was invited to a number of Frank’s recording sessions and Willie talked about some of them as an intimate description of a Sinatra recording event from time to time on his radio program. Willie had a great command of the English language and used it quite often.
I had the pleasure of enjoying Mr. Williams when I was working at Don Kirshner’s office. I was lucky enough to get a free ticket to a New York Knickerbocker basketball game. My seat was located right next to the inimitable Willie Bee, in the 2nd row just off the court under the basket.
Willie was the funniest person I had ever met. He offered his own vived description of each and every person who walked by on the edge of the basketball court. Willie held the honor of being passed the torch of the long-time classic radio show called, “The Make Believe Ballroom”. This show was started by “Martin Block” back in the 1940s. “WNEW Radio”, New York, were the original call lettersĀ and there was a very strong signal from that great station thatĀ reached out many miles north to upstate New York and as far south as Maryland.
Willie was nominated to the “Radio Hall of Fame” and will hold a great place in the hearts of his loyal New York, metropolitan area, listeners.
