My favorite Actors are actors, first, and political “animals”, second.
These actors believe in the American Flag and are not ashamed to say so. They are people who appreciate the fact that our country offers each and every person an opportunity to become successful, no matter the color of their skin or their House of Worship.
These actors believe if one works hard and is fair to their neighbors, what these people think is their own business and is that, of nobody else.
These actors don’t try to “use” their talent to convince their fans to think any certain way.
Politically outspoken actors are not actors at all! i consider such people as power-hungry and delusional. They have no clue as to what the public thinks or wants to think. It is simply a misnomer for anyone in the spotlight to try to sway their fans, either to the right or to the left.
My favorite actors are on the following list :
James Stewart, Jack Lemon, Jack Nicholson, John Wayne …. and then, going back many years : Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, Robert Ryan, Montgomery Clift, James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson and Marlon Brando.
Al Pacino, in the “classic actor” category, is one of my super-actor favorites. Like Jack Lemon, his variety of roles were comedic, serious and then, a killer!
Never have I heard Pacino give a hint as to his political views, whether he was on any media show or on an interview.
There are quite a few who would have joined this list, if it weren’t for their outspoken dedication to becoming a “political hack”. I don’t believe any actor will convince the public to either vote or think any certain way, just to gain favor because he or she is that actor’s fan.
Robert DiNero is a perfect example of someone whose hatred for a certain way of thinking is either wrong, misguided or at least, plain STUPID! For those who do not think in a particular direction, not only have they lost that fan, but they have totally caused their follower to lose faith and probably lost the general public’s total interest in that actor’s future movies, interviews and projects.
As an example, Charlton Heston, a fine actor, was the primary star in many major classic movies. He was a devout advocate of the 2nd Amendment of the U. S. Constitution. He was an outspoken member of the NRA (National Rifle Association) but unlike other actors, he never spoke negatively about those who opposed his conservative position. He, unlike DiNero, never tried to speak out against those with opposing political positions.
Spencer Tracy acted in many political, motivational movies. He pulled off the character, in each and every one. He had a twenty-six year affair with Katheryn Hepburn, which was exposed in most newspaper gossip columns throughout the world. There were no political speeches which Mr. Tracy made, throughout his long 46 year career, Being a devout Catholic, he refused to get a divorce from his wife. A non-political classic actor whose many performances will be loved by the general public for many years to come.
It is “Character”, which separates those actors who were the true greats of their time. They will be remembered as American Patriots and as actors they will never be forgotten!
